Forest Annex

Rockport, Maine

Located in a private wood, accessed solely by a rustic wooden bridge, this annex contains a home office, a billiards room, a personal gymnasium, and a guest suite, making this the perfect companion to the main house. The exterior elevations feature traditional shingle-style principles and sustainable materials that complement the pristine natural surroundings.

Since the site was endowed with handsome mature white pines, remote from any road, the building was designed to nestle into a tight clearing on a rock ledge. Blasting or ledge removal being impossible without damaging the woods, a minimally-disruptive foundation was created; even the boiler fuel (LP) was specified to allow a remote tank location.

By carefully matching the profiles on the off-the-shelf doors with custom paneling, a harmonious American cherry interior was created at modest cost.
