RUSTIC RESORT

Sorrento, Maine

Initially a bland 1960’s “box”, fortuitously situated just a few feet from the ocean’s edge, this coastal cottage was enlarged and renovated into a richly textured and detailed Craftsman-inspired compound. All three buildings are carefully situated together but apart to afford privacy. The design makes the most of the sweeping views, exposure to the sun, and the shoreline, while keeping the grouping asymmetrical and rustic. The original and main house has the arched doorway. The guest cottage to the right can be used independently as a separate retreat and includes its own private porch with an expansive view of the ocean. Working around existing trees and terrain, the design embraces the natural beauty of the location, connecting pathways, and ebullient flower gardens.
